Elizabeth Schumann, a native of Dallas Texas, is a diverse pianist with extensive experience in solo, collaborative, and pedagogical settings. Elizabeth holds a degree in Piano Performance with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy (teaching) from Southern Methodist University, where she graduated cum laude in 2020. While at Southern Methodist University, Elizabeth studied under Dr. Catharine Lysinger and received the Paul Van Katwijk Award, which is given to one outstanding undergraduate pianist each year. While pursuing her masters degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Colorado - Boulder, Elizabeth created a piano studio of 30 students with students regularly participating in local festivals and activities.
At the age of 6, Elizabeth began lessons with Mrs. Jennifer Roemer Aradhyula and discovered a passion for music that was rooted in a strong student-teacher relationship. As her playing has developed, so has her teaching. During her undergraduate degree, Elizabeth developed a passion for teaching piano, leading her to complete a Masters of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Colorado - Boulder.
Everyone should have the opportunity to cultivate a love for music at all ages and with a variety of genres. Elizabeth has the training and experience to help each student grow as a musician. Her approach emphasizes making a connection with each student, and she personalizes every lesson to best fit the students’ learning style.
Elizabeth is currently a doctoral candidate in piano performance under Dr. Jennifer Hayghe, expected to graduate in Spring 2025. Elizabeth has been an active member of the Music Teachers National Association for several years, holding various positions in local chapters. In 2022, she was honored to receive MTNA’s Mary Sue Harris Studio Teaching Fellowship. During her doctorate at the University of Colorado - Boulder, she was a graduate student teaching assistant. While completing her degrees, Elizabeth has maintained a full private studio and collaborated professionally with local choirs and instrumentalists. She lives in Houston, Texas, and teaches from her in-home studio in the Garden Oaks area.
